Aldridge leads Spurs to 20th straight home win over Hawks

LaMarcus Aldridge and Kyle Anderson are keeping the short-handed San Antonio Spurs going.

Thompson, the Redskins’ most dynamic player this season, suffered the injury at the end of a third-down run by quarterback Kirk Cousins. Thompson was engaged in a block, and his right leg bent back after he got caught in an awkward position under Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins.

Jeffery has become a bigger part of the Eagles’ offensive attack in recent weeks. He has been targeted by quarterback Carson Wentz 18 times over the last two games, leading to 10 catches for 151 yards with three touchdowns. He averaged nearly 17 yards per reception with a touchdown and a two-point conversion in a win Sunday night against Dallas.

We’ll be checking in with each team’s entire system soon, but I wanted to take a look at each club’s highest performing prospect to this point in the season. This isn’t to say these players have jumped to the top of the prospect charts for their respective organizations, but it’s always interesting to see which players have impressed so far.

The Steelers left tackle and former U.S. Army Ranger is leading a team effort in which Pittsburgh players will wear helmet decals representing the various Army divisions Sunday against the Colts.

“It’s just a small-unit patch that really doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but the history behind it means the whole world to a lot of veterans,” Villanueva said, via ESPN. “They died for that patch. When you watch the Steelers on Sunday and you see the flash of the 10th round division and the 7th round division … you’re calling out specific units.”

Jones has continued to make public comments since then.

James took over from there, delivering another tour de force performance that didn’t seem likely when he was being treated by the medical staff and the Cavs playing sluggishly.

Cleveland built a nine-point lead in the first quarter and seemed ready to build on it when James made a surprising mistake.

Alone in the frontcourt for an uncontested dunk, James tried to showboat and rocketed the ball off the back of the rim, a miss that stunned the three-time champion and the crowd of 20,000-plus fans. James then forced a long 3-pointer on Cleveland’s next possession and before long the Nets were even at 20-all when Zeller made his first 3 of the season.

“I want to go to an environment where I can continue to get better,” Ohtani said during a recent news conference in Tokyo. “I felt the same way when I graduated from high school. And it is my strongest reason for wanting to go now.”

Mayfield, who many believe is the frontrunner to win the Heisman Trophy this season, also has been rising up the boards in many NFL mock drafts for 2018. Antics aside, the GM says, Mayfield’s talent is undeniable.

Owners accused Jones of, among other things, circulating “outdated” information about the talks in a campaign to slow or scuttle agreement on a new pact with Goodell.

The Times and Journal both speculated the letter is another sign Jones’ fellow owners are willing to sanction him, up to attempting to take the Cowboys franchise away from him. Pro Football Talk reported Sunday that owners have discussed the idea of expelling Jones from the league. On Monday they sent Jones a cease-and-desist notice.

Clippers end 9-game losing streak behind Griffin, Johnson

Blake Griffin had 26 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, Wesley Johnson scored a season-high 24 points and the Los Angeles Clippers snapped a nine-game skid with a 116-103 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night.

The Clippers had dropped 11 of 12, but they overcame a monthlong struggle of closing out opponents, taking the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Lou Williams with 4:11 left in the third quarter.

Clippers G Patrick Beverley is expected to miss the rest of the season after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. The procedure to repair a lateral meniscus was Wednesday in Houston. Beverley has appeared in 11 games since arriving in the Chris Paul trade, averaging 12.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.73 steals and 30.3 minutes.

The comment, first reported by, and confirmed Tuesday by Patrick, came during a commercial break from Patrick’s show, and Patrick said (via CBS Sports) he thinks Dungy didn’t realize his microphone was live.

“Wow. I really wonder if Luck’s future is in Indianapolis. I really do,” Patrick said during the commercial break.

“They obviously believed (Luck would be back Week 1) because they did nothing to prepare for him not being there,” Dungy said.

When the show came back on the air, Dungy didn’t delve into Irsay’s alleged concerns, but did say Irsay didn’t want another Peyton Manning situation, where the team dropped him and he won a Super Bowl for the Broncos a few years later.

“Where is he? Because he’s going to throw, he’s not going to throw, he’s not going to throw 100 percent. We thought he was going to be ready, he’s not going to be ready. Where is he physically?” Dungy said. “The reason why I say it’s going to be in Indianapolis — think back five years and Peyton Manning and supposedly he’s done and he’s got this neck surgery and he’ll never throw again and he goes and wins another Super Bowl for another team.
